SERVICE

Alone we can do so little;

together we can do so much.

~ Helen Keller

Our efforts help organizations and individuals through hard work

from our volunteer members and financial support from our Foundation.

This year, our theme is Building Bridges that Elevate, Connect, and Empower our Communities.

We have two global efforts: Days for Girls and S.O.S. (Support Our Soldiers). We also have a new District-wide service project: supporting young survivors of human trafficking

through International Network of Hearts.

JANUARY

MARY THIGPEN MONTH OF SERVICE

Mary Thigpen (1).jpg

Mary Thigpen was a seasoned professional in the field of Human Resources. She spent her final managerial years working for the City of Chula Vista as a Senior Personnel Analyst. Once retired, she discovered how much fun retirement really was! She realized that there were still other ways for her to be useful from home and began seeking out exciting volunteer opportunities. If someone needed help, she would be the first one to get in line. Mary connected our club to Water for Children Africa and had an interest in many types of community service projects; she just wanted to help people in any way possible. We named January the Mary Thigpen Month of Service in honor of her birthday and her passion for community service.

In our first year (2021), we supported senior residents at Rose's Greenfield Manor, where Mary would donate annually, and Fredericka Manor, where our beloved Dottie Miller resided. We donated over 600 items to these seniors. This year, we donated over 60 We Care packages to seniors in the South Bay through Meals on Wheels.
